ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — The James E. van Zandt VA medical center received an award for "Best Patient Experience" from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The facility scored the highest in the nation for patient experience, trust and best place to work, with a top overall combined experience score.
Sigrid Andrew, the VA medical center director said that the medical center was honored to receive the award.
She said this shows the team's spirit and commitment to making sure veterans are taken care of.
Andrew said they provide strong support for employees, focusing on veterans needs rather than metrics, and growing resources where veterans request.
"This team knows that they take care of heroes and they work hard every day to make sure every veteran feels welcome. And this award confirms that our team does an amazing job of taking care of veterans and making sure that they know they are heroes."
She said that it starts with taking care of employees, and doing right by them, who will in turn take care of their patients.
During the last three years, the facility has grown more than 50 services, added 300 personnel and added 60,000 square feet of additional clinical and administrative space.
