Blair County crews nab alligator in Antis Township

ANTIS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) Update: Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Patrol Supervisor Craig Garman suspects the alligator was dropped near the river by an owner. He says the southern species can be kept as pets in Pennsylvania, but releasing them into the wild is a crime.

Garman says the gator was healthy and suspects he was in the area for a day or two at most.

The alligator is staying at the Centre Wildlife Care facility while officials try to figure out who may have released the reptile.

A member of the alligatoridae family was spotted in Antis Township in Bellwood.

Crews attempted to capture the scaly creature for about an hour before finally securing it.

Officials say they are not yet sure if the 3-foot reptile is an alligator or caiman, but either way it will be taken to a local humane society.
