Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of Wednesday's fatal house fire on Fayette Street in Westmont Borough.

Lees says 22-year-old Grant Jeanjaquet, a senior at Saint Vincent College, suffered "toxic thermal injuries" while attempting to escape the first floor of the home.

According to West Hills Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Schrock, when crews arrived at the scene, they encountered heavy smoke and fire on the first floor of the residence and they also found three of Jeanjaquet's family members, as well as a dog, on the second floor porch roof.

Authorities say the three family members and the dog were all rescued from the roof of the residence.

Investigators say the mother had reportedly re-entered the home in an attempt to rescue one of the daughters, and the two were later found near a second floor window.

Officials say the father and a 5-year-old boy have since been treated and released from the hospital.

Authorities add that the mother and one of the daughters are in stable condition while the other daughter remains in critical condition.

Officials also noted that a second dog did suffer fatal injuries in the blaze.

During a press conference on Thursday morning, officials noted that the use of smoke detectors inside the home, as well as the fact that the father's bedroom door was closed, prevented further tragedy.

Authorities also noted in the press conference that, according to the family, Jeanjaquet was an aspiring Navy nurse who was working at Conemaugh Hospital while he finished his schooling.

Officials say his death has been ruled accidental and the investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
