Preliminary hearing waived for man accused of killing 1 at Cambria City bar

Cambria County, PA Police say Dirk Jones faces first-degree murder, and other charges, for killing 21-year-old Caleb Beppler and wounding another man outside of the now former Liquid Currency bar in Cambria City.

Police say Dirk Jones faces first-degree murder, and other charges, for killing 21-year-old Caleb Beppler and wounding another man outside of the now former Liquid Currency bar in Cambria City.

“We’re still working on piecing all the whole specific timeline together," says Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer.

Investigators are working to determine exactly what led to shots being fired by Jones, on that June 10th morning. They say that what they do know is it started as a verbal dispute between a group of people.

Police say Jones came outside the bar, walking toward the group with a handgun, and fired seven shots in their direction. There is no word from investigators on what the motive could have been.

Officials say that they have not yet located the weapon that Jones was carrying. It took law enforcement a month to catch Jones in New Jersey.

District Attorney Neugebauer says Jones will now need to be arraigned and enter a plea. “I still expect him to enter a plea of not guilty at the formal arraignment. This case will work its way through, and obviously, we will have discovery. There may be some pretrial motions and litigation, and we’ll see where everything leads.” says Neugebauer.

Family and friends of the victim, Caleb Beppler, gathered outside the courtroom on Tuesday waiting for a hearing that didn’t happen, due to it being waived.
